September is National Wilderness Month

The Wilderness Act was signed in 1964 and created the National Wilderness Preservation System to protect public lands from development. Vast Protected Lands: The U.S. protects over 112 million acres across more than 800 distinct areas. Diverse Ecosystems: Designated wilderness includes forests, deserts, alpine meadows, swamps, and coastal islands.
